InfluxData InfluxDB Cloud: free credits and offers
Best offer on record: InfluxDB Cloud Serverless Free Plan (permanent, quota-limited). 6 verified findings, checked 2026-10-22.
Offers
InfluxDB Cloud Serverless Free Plan (permanent, quota-limited) high confidence
Free forever multi-tenant serverless plan. Limits (official docs): data-in writes 5 MB per 5 min (~17 kB/s avg), reads 300 MB per 5 min, cardinality 10k series, 2 buckets/databases, 5 dashboards, 5 tasks, 2 alert checks, 2 notification rules, 30-day data retention, 1 organization per account, no uptime SLA, community/Slack support only. No expiration; an idle account (zero writes and queries for 30+ days) is closed with email notice first. Multi-tenant regions: AWS US-West-2 (Oregon), AWS US-East (Virginia), AWS Frankfurt, Azure East US + West Europe, GCP US Central (Iowa).
Eligibility
Anyone with an email account; no .edu required, no credit card required, no startup or age criteria. Sign up at cloud2.influxdata.com/signup. Note the free plan runs the InfluxDB 2.x (TSM) engine; InfluxDB 3 workloads are the new serverless offering (see credit finding).
How to claim
1) Go to cloud2.influxdata.com/signup and create a free account (no credit card). 2) Choose a region (AWS Oregon/Virginia/Frankfurt, Azure East US/Amsterdam, GCP Iowa). 3) Pick Free Plan; create up to 2 buckets, 5 dashboards, 5 tasks. 4) Keep writing/reading at least once a month to avoid 30-day inactivity close. Upgrade to Usage-Based any time from the Billing page.
Expiry
No expiration. Account auto-closes only after 30+ consecutive days with zero writes/queries (email warning first). Free-plan quotas apply indefinitely.
Gotchas
Rate limits are very tight: 5 MB per 5 min (~14 MB/day max) and 30-day retention means only a few hundred MB of total data can be alive. Cardinality capped at 10k series (pricing page says 'contact sales' to scale, which implies not available on free). No HA, no uptime SLA, no dedicated support, no SAML/SSO. Free plan is InfluxDB 2.x TSM — the 2.x OSS line is in end-of-life/maintenance mode, and InfluxData is pushing InfluxDB 3, so feature investment has shifted. Pausing usage does not pause storage billing on paid plans; on the free plan storage is free only within the 30-day retention window.
$250 free credit on new paid InfluxDB Cloud accounts (30 days) high confidence
New paid accounts (InfluxDB Cloud Serverless, usage-based plan) receive $250 in credit applied to the first 30 days. Usage rates the credit pays against: data in $0.0025/MB written; query count $0.012 per 100 query executions; storage $0.002/GB-hour; data out $0.09/GB. Marketing: '$250 free credit to start', 'no minimum commitment', 'no credit card required' to start serverless. Rates for queries are per month for tasks/alerts (an alert check every 5 min = 8,640 billable query executions/month). Billing cycles are calendar months; you are billed early the following month.
Eligibility
Any new paid account — no .edu, no startup certification, no funding cap; regional limits are the same 6 multi-tenant regions as the free plan. A payment method (credit card; ACH/invoice via support@influxdata.com) is required to stay on the Usage-Based plan — the 'no credit card required' applies only to the free/starting tier; the moment you're on usage-based billing, charges hit the card. No student/startup-only version of this credit exists on official pages.
How to claim
1) Sign up at cloud2.influxdata.com/signup (no card needed for the free plan). 2) From the Billing page, upgrade to the Usage-Based plan. 3) The $250 credit applies to your first 30 days of usage-based billing. 4) Usage rates accrue across four vectors (data in, query count, storage, data out); the credit offsets those charges.
Expiry
Credit applies only to the first 30 days of the new paid account; after it is exhausted or the 30-day window ends, standard usage-based rates apply and your card is charged on the calendar-month cycle.
Gotchas
This is a trial credit, not a free tier — once $250 is spent or 30 days pass, all usage is billed; data out at $0.09/GB and storage $0.002/GB-hour add up fast (30 days of ~10 GB = ~432 GB-hours = ~$0.86/mo just for storage, plus queries). An alert check every 5 min alone is 8,640 billable executions/month. Late payments trigger a de-escalation ladder: 2 retries over 72h; at 7 days or 3 declines, all operations except writes are disabled; at 14 days the whole account is disabled; at 21 days suspension. Canceling charges the payment method immediately. Older marketing copy said the credit was given 'upon upgrade' from the free plan; current /pricing/ copy frames it as '$250 free credit to start' — in practice it is tied to the first 30 days of a new paid account. Web search was exhausted partway through this task, so I could not verify whether InfluxData added/removed credit wording in 2025-2026 news; rely on the live pricing/FAQ pages.
InfluxDB 3 Enterprise 30-day free trial (no credit card) high confidence
InfluxDB 3 Enterprise (self-managed, on-prem/private cloud/edge, or a Cloud PoC) has a 30-day free trial with 'no commitment' and explicitly 'no credit card needed'. During the trial you get: unlimited scale (no service quotas), HA + read replicas, SAML/SSO + OAuth, enterprise security/compliance, and a technical support SLA. After the trial, Enterprise is custom pricing based on CPU configuration (there is also a Cloud Dedicated offering and Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB billed to your AWS account where existing AWS credits/EDP discounts apply — no separate InfluxData free-credit program of its own).
Eligibility
Anyone (developer, student, or startup); no .edu required, no funding/age cap, no credit card required during the trial. Trial download or 'Talk to Sales' for a Cloud PoC. No region restriction on self-managed; Timestream requires AWS account (US regions where Timestream is available).
How to claim
1) For self-hosted trial: download InfluxDB 3 Enterprise from the InfluxData site / trial page and run it for up to 30 days. 2) For a managed PoC: click 'Run a PoC' / 'Request a proof of concept' on the pricing page; a sales rep contacts you. 3) No card required; decide on license or cloud contract afterwards.
Expiry
30 days. No auto-conversion to a paid license — the trial simply lapses; contact sales to convert. The marketing page headline now says '30-day trial · Installs in under 5 minutes · Enterprise SLA available'.
Gotchas
Trial, not free: after 30 days you must license Enterprise (custom pricing, contact sales) or move to the free InfluxDB 3 Core OSS (self-hosted, community support) or the free Cloud plan. Trial has no SLA guarantee beyond 'available' language; dedicated cloud (Cloud Dedicated) has NO free trial at all — custom pricing only. Timestream pricing inherits whatever AWS free-tier/credits you have but InfluxData adds nothing.
InfluxDB 3 Enterprise free tier for at-home, non-commercial use (alpha) medium confidence
Announced 2025-01-27 (blog post 'updated November 20, 2025' by Paul Dix): a free tier of InfluxDB 3 Enterprise for 'at-home, non-commercial use' — all Enterprise capabilities (unlimited-range querying, compaction, no 72-hour query-span cap) at zero cost, 'rate limited in some way' with the concrete limits still being defined with the community. Status at the time of the update: alpha. Access is via the InfluxData community Discord (tell them what rate limits work for your use case). Non-commercial: personal/home use only — student capstones are borderline, startup commercial use is explicitly NOT covered.
Eligibility
At-home, non-commercial users (personal sensors, home metrics, hobby projects). Commercial use excluded — so it is not a usable free tier for startups shipping a product. .edu not required; rate limits were still being shaped as of the Nov 20 2025 update. No formal sign-up form; engagement via community Discord.
How to claim
1) Join the InfluxData community Discord (link in the blog post). 2) State your at-home use case and the rate limits you'd want. 3) Get a free at-home InfluxDB 3 Enterprise build/license. 4) Verify the alpha status and any published rate caps before relying on it.
Expiry
Not formally defined — this is an alpha program; terms (rate limits) were still open as of the 2025-11-20 update. No renewal question, but expect terms to be finalized (or the program to ship as a proper free tier) later; re-check the blog/Discord before treating it as stable.
Gotchas
Alpha: features/limits can change or be withdrawn. 'Non-commercial' is the hard eligibility boundary — it does not satisfy a startup's production workload. No SLA or support commitment. Because I could not re-verify the current (Oct 2026) status (web search budget exhausted for this session), treat the exact rate limits as unconfirmed — the official pages I read today (pricing, cloud pricing, FAQ) do not list this at-home tier at all.
Self-hosted open-source builds are free forever: InfluxDB 1.x (Apache-2.0), InfluxDB 2.x OSS (MIT/Apache 2.x engine), and the new InfluxDB 3 Core (permissively licensed open source) — 'Full InfluxDB 3 engine · Linux, Mac, Docker', community support only, no HA, no enterprise security. Known trade-off: InfluxDB 3 Core's original hard 72-hour limit on writable/queryable timestamp ranges was lifted in late January 2025 (you can write any historical timestamp and query arbitrary start/end), but the maximum single-query range still defaults to 72 hours (432 ten-minute Parquet blocks), configurable at server start. InfluxData's own marketing labels 3 Core 'Free Forever · Self-managed · Community supported' for local dev, exploration, and prototyping.
Eligibility
Unlimited — anyone can download and self-host. No .edu, no startup cap, no credit card, no region limits (you run it wherever you have machines). Commercial use of the OSS builds is permitted (standard OSS licenses); the 'at-home' restriction only applies to the free Enterprise tier, not to OSS.
How to claim
1) Download InfluxDB 3 Core (or 1.x/2.x OSS) from influxdata.com/downloads or the relevant Docker Hub / package repos. 2) Install locally or on your own VM/container (Linux, Mac, Docker). 3) Use the influx CLI / HTTP API to write and query. No account, no billing.
Expiry
None — perpetual OSS builds (Apache/MIT lineage). 1.x is in maintenance/end-of-life mode (security fixes only); 2.x is frozen in favor of 3; 3 Core is the actively developed OSS line.
Gotchas
OSS has no support SLA, no HA, no enterprise security (SAML/SSO), and no service quotas but you carry all the ops. 3 Core is optimized for short query ranges (hours, not years) — for multi-year history you need Enterprise (paid or the alpha at-home tier). If you need a managed free database instead of self-hosting, use the Cloud Free Plan above.
InfluxDB University — free self-paced courses (no license offer) medium confidence
InfluxDB University (influxdata.com/learn / /university) offers free self-paced courses and instructor-led training ('free courses and instructor-led training, on your schedule') for learning InfluxDB. It is an education resource, not a free product license — it does not by itself grant InfluxDB Cloud free capacity, a reduced-rate subscription, or a credential (the landing page does not mention certifications). Listed here because it is the closest thing InfluxData has to a student/education offering, and it has no .edu requirement or cost.
Eligibility
Anyone, free, no .edu or startup requirement, self-paced. Instructor-led training is also free per the landing page ('free courses and instructor-led training').
How to claim
1) Go to influxdata.com/learn (or /university). 2) Pick a self-paced InfluxDB course. 3) Complete at your own pace. No sign-up gates are documented on the landing page.
Expiry
None documented; it's a standing free resource.
Gotchas
No product license, no credit, no certificate/credential language on the page. For actual free database capacity use the Cloud Free Plan / $250 credit instead. Confidence is medium because I read only the landing page (course catalog details, whether certificates exist deeper in the program) — I did not enumerate every course.
No student-specific or startup-specific program exists as of 2026-10-22: /education/ and /startups/ on influxdata.com both return 404, and the pricing, cloud-pricing, FAQ, and marketing pages contain zero mention of .edu eligibility, startup age/funding caps, or startup grants. For students and startups the only free offers are the general ones above (Cloud Free Plan, $250 new-account credit, Enterprise 30-day trial, OSS). 2025-2026 changes worth flagging: (1) The Free Plan's documentation and limits still describe InfluxDB Cloud TSM (the 2.x engine) — InfluxData's current marketing (influxdata.com/pricing) has been rebuilt around InfluxDB 3 (3 Core OSS, 3 Enterprise trial, Timestream on AWS, Cloud Serverless with $250 credit), so the TSM-centric docs may be superseded as 3-serverless matures; (2) InfluxDB 3 Core's original 72-hour write/query-range limitation was lifted on 2025-01-27 except the single-query span default (432 blocks = 72 h, configurable); (3) the InfluxDB 3 Enterprise at-home free tier announced 2025-01-27 was still alpha with unconfirmed rate limits as of its 2025-11-20 blog update and is absent from all pricing pages today; (4) InfluxDB 1.x/2.x OSS lines are effectively end-of-life, with InfluxDB 3 as the active OSS line; (5) an old InfluxDB Cloud test pricing page (influxdb-pricing-test-old, marked 'PAGE NOT IN USE') described the credit as '$250 credit for 30 days upon upgrade' — current copy frames it as a new-paid-account credit applied to the first 30 days. Caveat: the session's WebSearch budget was exhausted partway through, so program-level news (e.g., InfluxData joining Launchpad/CloudSparkle-style startup programs, or any 2026 credit changes) could not be independently re-verified; official pages fetched today are the basis for the high-confidence findings above.
